Em 1936 só podiam votar para as Juntas de Freguesia os Chefes de Família (uma família = um voto); no entanto:
quem já tivesse constituído família mas ainda vivesse com os pais ou avós, não podia votar; nesta época era comum a coexistência de mais de uma família na mesma casa;
os Chefes de Família eram por norma os homens; apenas no caso de viverem sozinhas (p. ex. viúvas, divorciadas) poderiam as mulheres votar, mas nesse caso teriam de ter "reconhecida idoneidade moral".
